If Screen Time Beats Practice Time — Don’t Complain About Playing Time
Join SportMind’s Jesse Engelbrecht and The Mental Game Academy’s Larissa Mills for a powerful session revealing how phones are silently eroding focus, confidence, and performance — and what parents and athletes can do to take back control.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
You notice your child spends more time scrolling than training. Their focus drifts in practice, and their confidence seems to fade when it matters most. Maybe they’re checking messages between drills or getting caught up in social media drama before a match. You can see the potential — but something invisible keeps pulling them away. If you’ve ever wondered, “How do I help them refocus and perform to their ability?” — this workshop was made for you.
BY THE END OF THIS WORKSHOP, YOU'LL:
See how phone use impacts focus and confidence — and the small changes that make a big difference.
Learn quick “digital reset” tools to switch off distraction mode before training or competition.
Rebuild real mental strength — discipline, patience, and resilience in a noisy world.
Get practical strategies for parents and coaches to support athletes without conflict.
Leave with a clear action plan for calmer minds, sharper focus, and consistent performance.

MEET YOUR GUIDES:
LARISSA AND JESSE
Larissa Mills is a Cognitive Behavioural Sports Consultant and founder of The Mental Game Academy, recognized for her pioneering work on how phones and social media shape athletes’ focus, confidence, and behaviour. With over 25 years of experience in education and coaching, she’s helped parents, coaches, and players understand and overcome the hidden impact of digital distraction. Joining her is Jesse Engelbrecht, sport psychologist and founder of SportMind, who brings practical tools and frameworks for building calm, focus, and resilience under pressure. Together, they merge two powerful worlds — Larissa’s research on the digital athlete and Jesse’s expertise in mental performance — to help families and competitors thrive in both sport and life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What exactly will this workshop cover?
You’ll learn how phone use and digital habits are reshaping athletes’ focus, motivation, and performance — and how to rebuild attention and mental strength using simple, science-backed tools. Larissa will unpack the latest research on “the digital athlete,” while Jesse will share practical mental training methods to help athletes refocus fast and play with confidence.
Who is this workshop for?
This session is designed for parents, coaches, and athletes who want to understand how to manage distraction in the modern sports world. Whether you’re guiding a young player or competing yourself, you’ll walk away with tools you can use immediately in training, matches, and daily life.
My child’s phone use is a constant battle — will this actually help?
Yes. You’ll learn why traditional rules and restrictions often backfire, and what to do instead. The strategies shared in this session focus on understanding behaviour first — then creating routines that naturally reduce screen time and improve focus without conflict or guilt.
What makes this workshop different from other mental training sessions?
Most workshops focus only on motivation or mindset — this one tackles the real modern challenge: attention hijacked by phones. It blends Larissa’s behavioural insights with Jesse’s applied sport psychology to give you a complete roadmap for building calm, focus, and performance in the digital era.
How long is the workshop, and what if I can’t attend live?
